Connectivity Guidelines for Running Forge Agents
Forge Agents operate globally across diverse network environments.
The system is designed to work reliably even under constrained conditions.
1. Minimum Requirements
- outbound internet access
- UDP allowed (QUIC transport)
- port 443 outbound (mandatory)
- port 443 inbound not required
- NAT-friendly operation
Agents initiate connections — Hub never dials into Agents.
2. Recommended Bandwidth
| Use Case | Recommended Upload | Recommended Download |
|---|---|---|
| Monte Carlo | 0.5–2 Mbps | 0.5–2 Mbps |
| BLAS | 2–10 Mbps | 2–10 Mbps |
| Climate PCA | 5–20 Mbps | 5–20 Mbps |
| FFmpeg | 10–50 Mbps | 10–50 Mbps |
FFmpeg is the only adapter that benefits significantly from high bandwidth.
3. Latency Expectations
Forge Pool tolerates:
- 10–200 ms latency
- 1–10% packet loss
- jitter up to 80 ms
These values represent typical operating envelopes.
QUIC ensures stability under these conditions.
4. Firewall & Enterprise Networks
Allow outbound:
- UDP 443
- TCP 443
Optional:
- enterprise proxies supported via CONNECT
- no inbound rules required
5. IPv4 / IPv6 Support
Agents work under:
- IPv4 NAT
- Carrier-grade NAT
- IPv6 native
- dual-stack links
